Infographics. From complicated to simple

Infographics. From complicated to simple

When we were little, we loved books with pictures. Now that we’ve grown up… nothing essentially changed. We still love looking at pretty pictures, just like before. Hence our affection for cinema, art, design and, of course, social media. Did you try thinking about how many hours we spend in Instagram, Pinterest or similar applications?

So, we thought that as visually appealing information sparks attention and joy, we could try that at work. We started implementing infographics in the design of our internal regulations and instructions.

We ended up with a series of quite unusual documents. They’re perceived much better than boring sheets of text that no one ever reads. Infographics has many advantages, but one is the most significant of all: infographics is entertaining, which makes it perfect for entertainment industry.

When designing infographics for employees, our priority is to boost their efficiency. And we also try to make it look pretty!

Each map like this one is created by a special task group. For instance, the task group for a cleaning technology map is comprised of:

  • head of cleaning department,
  • quality assurance manager,
  • administrator.

These guys are responsible for content; after that, a designer takes up a task of visual implementation.

What we have used infographics for:

  • portraits of target audiences for the marketing department,
  • product storage planograms for F&B direction,
  • cleaning technology map,
  • adaptation program and checklists for new employees,
  • instruction for the linear staff,
  • checklists on the content of profiles in social media,
  • event calendar,

and many more…

For times ahead, we’re planning to convert all frequently used documents, instructions and regulations into the infographics format. That’s how we go from complicated to simple.

Our affection for infographics is not limited to the company by-laws. Few years ago, we invited Natalya Barinova, visual communication coach, for a scribing workshop to teach our employees to convey information through visual images and symbols. Following that workshop, our flip-chart sketches, presentations and handouts became much more fascinating!
